Evan turns One

Evan turned one this week. He went from being a needy little baby, barely able to control his arms or hold his head up, to an active little boy who mows the lawn with his toy and throws food on the the floor. He went from being a little baby who could barely see mommy past his nose to calling out for his parents to pick him up in the mornings. There have been lots of changes, but some things stayed the same. Evan was born with a loud strong cry and he still has a loud audible voice... sometimes piercing. Evan was born with a mohawk and continues to grow the same hair-do. He was born a week early and he continues to wake mommy up in the early mornings. So much has happened. It's been an amazing year.

We had a small family party to celebrate Evan's first year. We BBQ, ate cakes and opened presents. And after all the excitement... Evan took a much needed nap. :) On his actual birthday, we went to Chili's. Evan's parents ate a yummy chocolate molten lava cake. And then we had a little cake for Evan at home.

We feel so blessed and are so thankful to God for Evan. We're looking forward to many wonderful years together.

Evan likes to walk

This weekend Evan realized he could walk. Now he does it all the time. We rarely see the three legged crawl. :( So bittersweet.

Guilty smile

You know how one thing leads to another? We got this hi-def camcorder to record all the precious moment of Evan's life. Then we got a computer that can handle and play all the hi-def videos we record. And finally we had to have a 60 inch hi-def TV to play it on. Not to brag... but this is a nice TV. And for the last couple of months we've been trying to think of ways of protecting the TV from Evan. For the time being we let him touch the screen as long as he isn't throwing objects into it. But we tend to remove him from the TV vicinity. We even surround the TV with other objects to deter Evan. Well, Evan isn't buying it. Just this weekend, he moved one of the toys blocking the side of the TV... looked over at us... flashed his smile... and inched his way behind the television. He was smiling the entire time, as if saying "look at me mom and dad... I'm getting into trouble." Where do they come up with this stuff. And how do they know to look so cute in the process?

Learning to walk

He's a fast three-legged crawler. And now he's working on walking. It won't be long now.

Evan mommy moment

I sat with Evan on the porch yesturday afternoon. He had his little arms resting on my chest just observing the world around him. I just looked at him and tried to memorize him as he was... this sweet 8 1/2 month old boy of mine. He's growing up so fast. He learned to sit up early last month and now he's crawling all over the place. But oh... how I love him. I'm going to soak him in while I can still hold him in my arms.

I sometimes sing to him. And one day I noticed he sort of chimes in with me.

He's started feeding himself puffs and cheerios a while back. But I noticed for the first time that he has preferences. I don't know if it's the shape or the taste, but he tends to eat the Cheerios last.

On a tough note... Evan's got separation anxiety. He has such a hard time going down for naps. He just screams for us. I try not to endulge his clingyness, but my heart breaks to hear him so upset. I guess that's why it's called tough love... it's hard on the baby and on the mommy too.

Evan's first crawl?

He didn't get very far, but propelled himself enough to grab one of his favorite toys.

We're in trouble now

Evan learned a new trick today. He figured out how to get up after we put him down for bed.
Evan 1, Parents 0.

Evan is also learning how to eat finger foods. Here he is eating banana puffs and little crackers.

Evan pulls himself up

Evan was sitting in his crib playing with his toys when he surprisingly pulled himself up. He's one strong boy.

Evan eating cereal

Evan is also mastering eating solid food. Here is his recent cereal feeding. He gets most of it in his mouth.

I also got a good video of Evan laughing at himself in the mirror.

Evan rolls over

After 5 months, Evan finally masters the skill of rolling over. He did it once when I was on the phone this morning, but he had some help from the play mat. So I moved him to a cleared area and he does it again. By the third time, I had my camera ready. So here it is. My little boy rolling over.
